FWD is a landscape architecture, public art & urban design practice.
We are a worker-owned cooperative and certified woman-owned business (WBE), with offices in Brooklyn, New York and Oakland, California. Our name, pronounced 'forward', originates from our founding in 2022 as the Flatbush Workshop for Design.
Worker-Owned Co-operatives
Worker-ownership embodies our values in shared power and prosperity and provides a critical alternative to traditionally extractive business models.
FWD sits within a national and international network of worker-owned businesses and is among a handful of U.S.-based architectural design cooperatives. We are proud members of the United States Federation of Worker Cooperatives (USFWC) and the New York City Network of Worker Cooperatives (NYC NOWC).
In order to provide ownership opportunities to non-licensed professionals on our team, as well as offer the full suite of landscape architectural services to clients, FWD is comprised of three business entities which are incorporated in New York State and the State of California. With these entities in place, we can do the work we love while supporting a diverse spectrum of worker-owners.
Radically Inclusive Codesign
We work with communities to share, amplify and uncover cultural, historic and environmental stories present in the landscape. No landscape is too small or too large to say something important.
FWD prioritizes the voices of local residents and stakeholders who are often left out of project decisions impacting their neighborhoods.
