Rain Activated Design Toolkit

  • As part of Rebuild by Design’s Rainproof Project, Rain Activated builds awareness and shared knowledge around flooding resilience in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. FWD developed a Community Flooding Design Toolkit to provide resources and design solutions for renters and homeowners in the neighborhood. Recognizing that water holds memory and returns to sites of historic wetlands and streams, long since paved over, this document begins the conversation around how to live alongside water in a way that actually benefits the neighborhood.

The Design Toolkit compiles city agency resources, historic mapping, and shared stories from neighbors who participated in the Toolkit's development as part of a day of community mapping in Paerdegat Park. The Design Toolkit is a collaborative resource that grows with the collective knowledge of East Flatbush, ensuring that community members have the information they need to both prepare for and respond to flooding in Central Brooklyn.
